Our year 3/4 are taking part ongoing project called ‘The Archie Project’ in order to raise awareness of dementia. The Archie Project is an intergenerational dementia awareness scheme which links primary schools, care homes, sheltered housing schemes, business/services and community members to ultimately create a dementia friendly community.
Year 3/4 learnt all about Archie the scarecrow who suffers from dementia and how he feels when people don’t understand him. The children enjoy learning in this creative way about dementia and how it can not only affect people, but more importantly, how they can support people around them who suffer from this terrible disease. Each child has an Archie story book which they can use to retell his story, alongside a book of activities. Year 3/4 are now sharing their learning to ensure that our school and wider community is dementia friendly.
