Dementia Awareness and Archie Club

Our year 3/4 are taking part ongoing project  called ‘The Archie Project’ in order to raise awareness of dementia. The Archie Project is an intergenerational dementia awareness scheme which links primary schools, care homes, sheltered housing schemes, business/services and community members to ultimately create a dementia friendly community.

          Archie Information Leaflet

Year 3/4  learnt all about Archie the scarecrow who suffers from dementia and how he feels when people don’t understand him.  The children enjoy learning in this creative way about dementia and how it can not only affect people, but more importantly, how they can support people around them who suffer from this terrible disease.  Each child has an Archie story book which they can use to retell his story, alongside a book of activities.  Year 3/4 are now sharing their learning to ensure that our school and wider community is dementia friendly.

Our Archie Assembly

In June, we had a visit and whole school assembly with Claire Puckey, DCC. Claire explained to our children all about dementia and how it can affect people. You will be pleased to know that we have submitted an application to gain the status of a ‘Dementia Friendly School’, we will keep you posted as to how this goes.

Good news! Our application has been accepted and we now are a school working towards Dementia Friendly Status, we will continue to keep you posted about our Dementia Journey.
